We work for systemic change from our Hearts…For us By Us
CBTEL was created to redistribute wealth, in its many forms, from non-Black people everywhere to Black LGBTQIA+ people in our historic communities. The mission of this org is to be a continuous source of monetary, physical, spiritual, social and material resources for Black members based on the leadership of Black administrators and contribution and cooperation with other black and brown-led initiatives, creatives, and communities nationwide. CBTEL is not a charity, we do not provide donations, we make payments towards a larger societal and spiritual debt. We bring to light and help begin closing the gap of generational wealth and culture stolen. Our goal is to start the healing process and self-actualized repair of the pain, death, and epigenetic trauma created by slavery, exacerbated by ableism, queer/transphobia, and stigmas against black marginalized workers and identities.
The purpose of this coalition is to reverse the impact of inherited and privilege-based wealth and corporate greed and create security to name our needs and identify our oppressors as Black people, LGBTQIA+ people specifically and self/communally determine effective direct actions. The function of this coalition is to be an example of what is possible when the love, and minds of the most impacted are able to advocate and provide for themselves in solidarity with others through mutual aid. We understand that human rights are non-negotible and aim to create nationwide alternatives with the nuances of intersectional identity in mind. Some of those alternatives include absolutely free transitional housing, food, clothing, and wellness services, Trans and African Diasporic-centered wellness, computer labs, business development support, event spaces and vending opportunities free of charge, and a group where we share our access to white adjacency to get black community members’ needs heard.
CBTEL operates as an umbrella for various intersections of organizing, direct action, and programming with a focus on QTBPOC issues needs, and the fight for reparations. This Org is not solely an educational resource for non-Black folks nor a charity group made to alleviate guilt without action; we do not provide dehumanization for donations, we make payments towards a larger societal and spiritual debt called reparations. We build new alternatives where systemic oppression fails us. We provide a place for the payment of reparations to a historically black city ( soon to be expanded to other major cities), classes, praxis and discussions on anti-colonialism/racism/transphobia , a place for non-Black folks to provide Black members with free, high-quality resources and supplies. We function as a formal resource for Black LGBTQ+ members and all non-Black members are expected to work and correspond with Black members with the same respect you would to an employer or manager.
We prioritize transgender people, people with disabilities, sex workers, and folks who were born and raised in Philly. The group is led by Black trans administrators who have the ultimate authority on matters. White moderators are volunteers and are responsible for the fundraising maintenance work. Mods work with the admin to keep the org active. White and non-Black members (both mods and regular members) are responsible for continuous monetary and non-monetary reparations. We have a team of people who help manage our housing Cooperative DIYaspora and its free food program and wellness pantry , and a host of intersectional actions with various Orgs such as SWARM, Crystal House, Aseamin Healing Center, Slowcut Labz, and Root Work LLC and many others. With cooperation, we have been able to help other reparations initiatives inside and outside of Philly start, and thrive and have lended a helping hand to trans brothers sisters and siblings nationwide.
